Four teens charged in Calif. gang rape

RICHMOND, Calif., Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Prosecutors in Contra Costa County, Calif., said four teenagers are facing felony rape with a foreign object charges for the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl.

Deputy District Attorney Dara Cashman said if the suspects, ages 15, 16, 17 and 19, are convicted, they could face possible life prison sentences thanks to sentencing enhancements, the Contra Costa Times of Walnut Creek, Calif., reported Thursday.

The three unidentified minors charged with raping the Richmond High School student outside her homecoming dance face an enhancement for acting in concert. The fourth suspect, identified as Manuel Ortega, is charged with robbery, assault causing great bodily injury and rape in concert.

Authorities allege the four suspects took part in the gang rape of the unidentified girl last Saturday after the teen became intoxicated and collapsed.

Police allege the girl was then raped, beaten and robbed by an unidentified number of individuals during a two-hour period.

The Contra Costa Times said a fifth suspect, identified as 21-year-old Salvador Rodriguez, has been arrested but not charged in connection with the incident. Additional arrests are expected.
