School to fire janitor over student models

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 28 (UPI) -- A California high school custodian who recruited students for his modeling agency and displayed their photos at school will be fired, officials say.

Wilcox High custodian Joe Miller's "focus on and attentiveness toward attractive students" made them uncomfortable, and violated sexual harassment policies, the school district said in a report obtained by the San Jose Mercury newspaper.

The report said administrators at the Santa Clara school were aware of and seemed to tolerate the on-campus photo displays for a year before a teacher complained to the district in May, the paper reported Wednesday.

Miller, a school employee for 20 years, says school and district officials gave him a "green light" two years ago to recruit at school after several students appeared in a fashion show he organized.

He says he is being made a "scapegoat" in the wake of a recent sex scandal at Wilcox when a teacher was arrested and charged with having sex with a student, the report said.
