Mom chides school for not protecting son

FORT COLLINS, Colo., Oct. 28 (UPI) -- A ninth-grade student in Fort Collins, Colo., who has cerebral palsy, said his classmates bully him, including tying him to a fence post with his sweatshirt.

Kevin Kaneta, 15, said he's been the target of bullying since third grade, KMGH-TV, Denver, reported Wednesday.

When asked why he's a target, Kaneta said it was because of his disability.

"They go after me because they see me as a vulnerable target," he said

Kaneta's mother, Tyleen Wilson, said others trip her son, pin him down and pour dog food in his mouth, and kick him between the legs. But being tied to the playground fence post was too much for her, the television station said.

Kaneta said the bullies "tied both arms of my sweatshirt to the fence post. They zipped up my jacket and just watched me struggle to get out."

Wilson said she is angry with Liberty Commons Charter School for not doing anything to protect her son.

"They said they have a zero tolerance policy," she said.

"He's not going back. I won't put him through that anymore," Wilson said. "He has a right to a decent life, just like everyone else."

Russ Spicer, the school's headmaster, did not comment on the incident or allegations of bullying.
