JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Oct. 27 (UPI) -- A jury has been convened in the case of a Jacksonville, Fla., man charged with shooting and paralyzing former NFL player Richard Collier, officials said.

Testimony in the attempted murder trial of Tyrone Hartsfield, 33, was to begin Tuesday afternoon before Circuit Judge Mallory Cooper, The (Jacksonville) Florida Times-Union reported.

Police allege Hartsfield shot Collier Sept. 2, 2008, after following Collier from a nightclub to an apartment. Collier, now 28, was permanently paralyzed, ending his career with the Florida Jaguars.

The attack allegedly was revenge for a fight the two men had at a nightclub four months earlier, police said.

Prosecutors were expected to introduce a secretly recorded tape made by an associate of Hartsfield in which he allegedly confessed to being the shooter. Hartsfield has said he is innocent of any wrongdoing.
