Amnesiac teen to be reunited with family

NEW YORK, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- An 18-year-old woman, apparently suffering from amnesia and discovered near a New York City youth shelter, is being reunited with her family, police say.

The young woman, whose name had not been released, was identified by someone in Maryland who saw her photo on CNN and knew her Washington family was looking for her, the U.S. news broadcaster reported Sunday.

"I just want to know who I am and what happened to me," the young woman said.

The woman's family were on their way to New York from Washington, Paul Browne, New York deputy police commissioner, said.

A security guard for Covenant House youth shelter saw the woman walking on a nearby sidewalk Oct. 9 and tried unsuccessfully to communicate with her. He then called police.
