Amnesiac teen identified

NEW YORK, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- A teenager who turned up in New York City with no apparent memory of her past has been identified as an 18-year-old from Washington state, police said.

A Maryland resident who saw the young woman's photograph on CNN gave police her name, the news network reported Saturday. Police have not released the woman's identity.

She was found outside Covenant House in midtown Manhattan on Oct. 9. Officials at the shelter for runaways and other troubled young people say she had not been staying there.

"I just want to know who I am," the New York City Administration for Children's Services quoted her as saying. "I want to know who I am and what happened to me."

Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Browne said she has been reunited with her family.
