Biden defends Obama's busy slate

EDINA, Minn., Oct. 16 (UPI) -- U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, featured guest at a Minnesota fundraiser, defended President Obama's busy schedule.

Biden said he understands criticism that the Obama administration has taken on too much all at once. But, he said, the issues of energy, education and healthcare were too urgent to set aside, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.

"We don't have a choice," Biden told his audience Thursday at the Edina, Minn., home of Robert Pohlad, son of late Minnesota Twins owner Carl Pohlad and the CEO of PepsiAmerica .

"We are not in this for incremental change," Biden said. "Incremental change will not work."

Biden saluted former Vice President Walter Mondale, a Minnesotan, saying he was a man .

"I continue to call on" for advice.

Biden called Mondale the "single most prominent vice president in American history" and the father of the modern vice presidency.
