Teen critically injured in skylight fall

COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- A Utah teenager was critically injured when he fell through a skylight after climbing to a school rooftop, an activity some classmates say is popular.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported Thursday while the unidentified 16-year-old boy is hospitalized with injuries suffered in this week's fall at a vacant elementary school in Cottonwood Heights, his schoolmates revealed scaling local schools is a teenage pastime.

"It's an adrenaline rush," Brighton High School junior Jackson Brown said of the roof visits.

"It's fun to go up there and see the whole city and the view and everything," said Ray Bavi, another junior at Brighton. "We're not doing anything wrong. It's just something fun to do."

Cottonwood Heights police spokesman Beau Babka said the teenage victim in Tuesday's incident fell nearly 15 feet into a kitchen prep area after stepping on a roof skylight.

The Tribune said the unidentified teen suffered head and upper body injuries.
