Beau Biden still weighing Senate run

WASHINGTON, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Joseph "Beau" Biden III said Thursday he is still considering whether to run for the Delaware seat in the U.S. Senate his father vacated last year.

Biden, who took a year's leave of absence from his job as Delaware attorney general to do a tour of duty in Iraq, told ABC's "Good Morning America" he will be "making the decision in due course."

The vice president represented Delaware in the Senate for 36 years. Edward Kaufman, who was appointed to fill the seat for two years, was widely assumed to be a placeholder for the vice president's son.

Republican Mike Castle, Delaware's only congressional representative and a former governor, recently announced he is a candidate. That could mean a tough race for Biden if he runs.

Shortly before he left for Iraq, Biden introduced his father at the Democratic National Convention. He talked about the tragedy that struck his family in 1972, when his mother and sister were killed in a car crash and he and his brother, Hunter, were injured.
