SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- The discovery of a pornographic magazine in a child's room led to finding dozens of such magazines at firehouses in San Jose, Calif., fire officials said.
Julia LaBlanc, a firefighter, found a hard-core magazine under her 9-year-old son's pillow. He told her he got it at the fire station where she works, The San Jose Mercury-News reported Wednesday.
She said her complaint about the pornography led to harassment against her on the job. She sued and has been offered $200,000 to settle the suit, the newspaper said.
"In order for the department to move forward, I think this is a good settlement," said City Attorney Rick Doyle. "We want to make sure we have a safe work space for all our employees."
LaBlanc alleged in her suit, filed in Santa Clara County Superior Court in April 2008, her son brought home a copy of a sexually explicit magazine he found in the men's room while visiting her at Station 6. The next day, she found more than 60 other hard-core pornographic magazines and reported it to her captain.
Pornographic materials were found in other stations as well as Station 6, the report said.
