Two killed in family shooting in N.C.

MOORESVILLE, N.C., Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Investigators in Iredell County, N.C., said four family members were shot, two fatally, and one of the dead is suspected of committing the crimes.

The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer said Monday that investigators have not offered a possible motive for the recent fatal shooting of Douglas Alan Thomas Sr. and his wife, Linda Thomas, at their home near Mooresville, N.C.

The couple's identity was based on property records and neighbors' reports as authorities have not officially identified the victims, the newspaper said. Investigators also did not specify which victim is suspected of committing the alleged domestic violence-related shooting.

Severely wounded in the shooting early Sunday were the couple's sons, Douglas Alan Thomas Jr. and Christian Thomas, who neighbors said are in their 20s.

A man who identified himself as Christian Thomas' brother-in-law told the Observer the brothers were both in critical condition following Sunday's shooting.

Iredell County Sheriff's Department investigators told the Observer a cell phone call Sunday prompted police to visit the family's home, leading to the discovery of the four shooting victims.
