House may get Veterans Day week off

WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- U.S. House members were told they could expect a vacation during the week including Veterans Day unless they needed to be in Washington for votes on healthcare.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., told members they could plan on being away from Washington that week, subject to change, The Hill reported.

Veterans Day, Nov. 11, is on Wednesday this year, so if Congress remained in session, members would have to fly to their home districts for Veterans Day observances then return, aides said.

Hoyer noted a week away from Capitol Hill for Veterans Day, coupled with the Thanksgiving recess, leaves precious little time to legislate next month.
