Plane evacuated in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- No injuries were reported in the emergency evacuation of an AirTran flight at Orlando International Airport, Florida authorities said.

The plane, en route to Akron, Ohio, had just departed Orlando when the pilot reported an engine problem, airport spokeswoman Carolyn Fennell told The Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel in a story published Monday.

The pilot returned and made an emergency landing as sparks flew from one of the engines, the Sentinel reported.

Airport emergency personnel extinguished the sparks as the 122 passengers and crew members evacuated the plane by an inflatable chute, Fennell said.

The passengers were taken to the terminal and booked on a later flight, Fennell said.
