NEW YORK, March 26 (UPI) -- Emilia Clarke does not regret turning down the lead role in the movie adaptation of the erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey.

The 28-year-old actress, best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in HBO's Game of Thrones, was in talks with director Sam Taylor-Johnson when she decided to bow out of the film because of its nudity.

"No regrets," she told The Hollywood Reporter of passing up the role. "I'd done nudity before and was concerned with being labeled for doing it again."

Clarke made her New York City stage debut as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's in 2013. The role demanded that she slip naked into a bathtub.

"That was a bit bonkers," said Clarke, whose GOT character has been involved in relatively few revealing scenes. "There are other women who remove items of clothing on our show, so they've kind of got my nipple count down now," she jokes.

The Fifty Shades part ended up being played by actress Dakota Johnson. She told Elle magazine last year her secret for staying confident in the nude was having "no shame."
