VILNIUS, Lithuania, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Ukrainian opposition leader Vitali Klitschko said Dmytro Bulatov, an activist allegedly abused by captors, is in Lithuania for medical treatment.
Klitschko said European diplomats did "everything" to ensure Bulatov received adequate medical care in another country and the BBC reported he arrived in Lithuania Monday.
Bulatov had disappeared Jan. 22 and reappeared eight days later bloodied and missing part of an ear. He said he was abused by captors who had Russian accents.
Protests continue in Kiev, more than two months after a November decision by the Ukrainian government to suspend efforts to sign an association agreement with the European Union.
European leaders were critical of Ukraine's response to the demonstrations.
Catherine Ashton, the top foreign policy official for the EU, was quoted by the BBC as saying some activists were deliberately targeted for speaking out against the government.
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said the November decision was made to protect the country's economic ties to Russia.
