BEIJING, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- All parties to stalled nuclear negotiations with North Korea are called on to use their "wisdom" to resume the process, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
China has been lobbying to bring its negotiating partners back to the table to ensure security on the Korean Peninsula.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said Thursday there's a common interest and shared responsibility to find a resolution to the impasse.
"Under the current circumstances, the parties should use their wisdom, come back to the track of dialogue and consultations, and restart the six-party talks at an early date," he was quoted by South Korea's Yonhap News Agency as saying.
Yonhap reported earlier this week top South Korean military leaders were on alert for signs of provocation from North Korea.
Six-party talks between the two Koreas, China, the United States, Russia and Japan stalled in 2009. North Korea has conducted two nuclear tests since then.
A U.S. State Department spokeswoman said in October "the ball is in [North Korea's] court" in terms of showing it's committed to serious negotiations.
