MANAMA, Bahrain, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- A criminal court in Manama, Bahrain, said it sentenced nine people to life in prison Monday for manufacturing explosions and plotting acts of terrorism.

The official Bahrain News Agency said five of the nine are fugitives.

"The nine convicts had been trained to manufacture, store and detonate explosives ... to breach public security, carry out acts of terrorism so as to scare innocent people and they also raised funds for these purposes," the news agency said.
