WASHINGTON, July 11 (UPI) -- Defense analysis from IHS Jane's Intelligence Review said Saudi Arabia may be targeting Iran and Israel with a new surface-to-surface ballistic missile program.

Jane's deputy intelligence editor Robert Munks said satellite imagery his agency has reviewed reveals evidence of a previously unknown surface-to-surface missile facility in Saudi Arabia.

The review comes as Jane's says it believes Saudi Arabia is likely updating its missile arsenal with more accurate intermediate range weapons. Munks said there are two launch pads situated in a way suggesting Israeli and Iranian targets are in mind.

"This new site potentially serves as a training and storage complex with the ability to perform operational missile launches as required," he said in a statement Wednesday.

Munks said Jane's assessment can't determine with any degree of specificity what exactly the missile system is targeting. If they are pointed at Iran and Israel, the systems would be targeting major cities like Tel Aviv or Tehran.

"We do not want to make too many inferences about the Saudi strategy, but clearly Saudi Arabia does not enjoy good relations with either Iran or Israel," he said.
