NEW DELHI, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- With nuclear negotiations set to resume Jan. 16, Iran said it was pursuing a course of peaceful cooperation with the international community.
International Atomic Energy Agency officials are expected to resume discussions with Iran Jan. 16. IAEA inspectors said last month's meetings in Tehran were constructive, though access to the controversial Parchin military complex outside Tehran was prohibited.
Saeed Jalili, head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said in New Delhi that Tehran's cooperation with the IAEA was "constant."
"As an active member of the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Non-Proliferation Treaty, Iran emphasizes on simultaneous fulfillment of duties and the full use of all its nuclear energy rights," he was quoted by state-funded broadcaster Press TV as saying.
Iranian officials this week said they were considering negotiations with the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council -- China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States -- and Germany about the Iranian nuclear program, which Tehran maintains is peaceful.
Jalili said Washington's stance on regional issues made it difficult to engage the United States, however.
"The Americans need to make a real change in their policies," he said. "They must stop dual attitudes and respect rationality and wisdom of nations."
