BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Supporters of opposition leaders in Kyrgyzstan marched on the country's White House from the southern city of Jalal Abad, organizers said.
Three members of the opposition Ata-Jurt were arrested early this month for allegedly trying to oust the government by force during recent protests. The government said it launched an investigation into a potential attempt to seize the country's White House.
Around 200 people organized in Jalal Abad and started marching on foot Wednesday to the White House. Opposition supporter Rashit Sulaimanov told the country's 24.kg news agency that demonstrators were continuing toward the capital despitepleas for calm.
Osh and Jalal Abab were the sites of ethnic violence that followed a coup in Kyrgyzstan in 2010. At least 400 people were killed during the violence.
Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev formed a new government early this month after political parties Ar-Namys and Ata-Meken left the ruling coalition. Atambayev secured the presidency by winning 63 percent of the vote in the first post-coup election.
