India disrupts LeT terrorist group in Kashmir

NEW DELHI, July 5 (UPI) -- Police in Jammu and Kashmir, India, have broken up a LeT recruiting unit and arrested seven local recruits.

The militant group Lashkar-e-Toiba rejects Indian control of the disputed province, parts of which are controlled by India, Pakistan and China.

Sopore Superintendent of Police Imtiyaz Hussain said: "Local militants were recruited with the aim of building a network of LeT operatives to be tasked with executing various terrorist acts. They were in criminal conspiracy with one Pakistani terrorist, Fahadullah, who operates from Sopore. Fahadullah was receiving directions from one Hanzullah, a LeT commander currently in a Pakistani jail cell. Facing a dearth of foreign terrorists, LeT is desperate to recruit Kashmiri youth by indoctrinating them with radical ideology. The people of the area provided timely inputs which lead to the arrest of this terrorist gang," the Times of India reported Wednesday.

Indian intelligence believes Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, the jailed mastermind of the November 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai, nevertheless remains active, commanding the main LeT communication center despite being incarcerated in Rawalpindi's Adiala jail.
