ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, March 22 (UPI) -- Pakistan's Jamaat-e-Islami Party threatened to protest Parliament if it votes to reopen NATO's supply routes to Afghanistan.
NATO's Afghan supply routes were shut down by Pakistan last December after a border incident.
Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hasan Tuesday said the JI party would stage a protest sit-in outside the Parliament House during an upcoming joint session if it votes to reopen the NATO supply routes.
Pakistan has blocked NATO supply trucks from entering Afghanistan since Nov. 26, when NATO attacks killed 24 Pakistani border guards. It is the longest border closure since an 11-day shutting of the border in September 2010 in the wake of cross-border NATO airstrikes that killed three Pakistani soldiers.
Hasan said, "Come what may, we would resist against the expected decision to restore NATO supplies, as in the case of an anarchic situation developing those supporting the reopening would be responsible for it," The Nation Online reported Wednesday.
Hasan also expressed hope that patriotic persons would unite with them in their protest if the decision is made to reopen the supply routes.
