TRIPOLI, Libya, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- One of Moammar Gadhafi's sons is using the terms of his asylum to encourage acts of aggression against the interim government, a Libyan official said.
Saadi Gadhafi has been in Nigeria since his father's government fell during an uprising protected by NATO forces last year. Mohammed Nasr al-Hraizi, a spokesman for the interim government, was quoted by CNN as saying Gadhafi's son was fueling a revolt from outside the country.
"Saadi used the asylum he was granted in Niger on humanitarian basis to carry out acts of aggression against the Libyan people and their glorious revolution," Hraizi was quoted as saying.
Saadi Gadhafi told al-Arabiya in an interview from Niger that Libya should expect a "new popular uprising."
Tripoli, in response, said it was looking to extradite Gadhafi to Libya.
Interpol issued a so-called Red Notice for Gadhafi in September as Moammar Gadhafi's government began to fall. The Red Notice is for allegedly "misappropriating properties" through force when he served as the head of the Libyan Football Federation.
Friday marks the first anniversary of the uprising against Gadhafi's government. The interim government said it was gearing up for June elections for the legislative assembly.
The cable broadcaster notes pro-Gadhafi forces have called for an uprising to mark the anniversary of the revolt.
