TEHRAN, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Silence from Iran's adversaries in the West is a questionable response to accusations regarding the killing of an Iranian scientist, an Iranian official said.
Unidentified people attacked the cars of Majid Shahriari and Fereydoun Abbasi in separate locations in late November. Shahriari was killed but Abbasi and his wife escaped the bombing attack with minor injuries.
Both men were physics professors at Shahid Beheshti University in North Tehran.
Ramin Mehmanparast, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, said after the attacks that Tehran had "documents" that showed the West and the "Zionist regime" had a hand in operations targeting the university professors.
The spokesman said Tuesday that Western countries should be held accountable for their alleged role in the attacks, adding "their silence on this crime will bring more surprises to the world public opinion," Iran's state-funded broadcaster Press TV reports.
His accusations come as the United States and other world powers kicked off a second day of direct talks with Iran about its nuclear program in Switzerland.
The focus of the meetings, the first direct talks since 2009, is to press Tehran to allay international fears that it plans to build a nuclear weapon. Iran has maintained its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.
