TEHRAN, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Iran is pursuing legal measures against Western adversaries for their suspected role in the assassination of a nuclear scientist, an Iranian official said.
Unidentified terrorists blew up the cars of Majid Shahriari and Fereydoun Abbasi in separate places Monday morning. Shahriari was killed instantly, but Abbasi and his wife escaped the bombing attack with minor injuries.
Both men were working as physics professors at Shahid Beheshti University in North Tehran.
Ramin Mehmanparast, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, said the United States and Israel were behind the attack on the two scientists, Iran's official Islamic Republic News Agency reports.
He added that Tehran had "documents" that showed the West and the "Zionist regime" had a hand in terrorist operations targeting the two university professors.
Tehran would follow up with legal action once the attackers were identified, he added.
Iran blamed its adversaries for the January assassination of Iranian physics Professor Massoud Ali Mohammadi.
Mohammadi, who taught physics at Tehran University, was assassinated when an explosive device denoted in front of his home.
Iranian media said shortly after the blast that a monarchist group, the Royal Association of Iran, claimed responsibility for the attack. Tehran went on to blame the CIA and the Israeli Mossad for the attack, claiming Mohammadi was a prominent nuclear scientist.
