OSLO, Norway, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Opposition leaders in Myanmar called on military authorities to give them advance notice of Aung San Suu Kyi's possible release, a spokesman said.

The international community is watching Myanmar for signs suggesting Suu Kyi, a pro-democracy leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, will be freed from house arrest.

The Democratic Voice of Burma, an opposition newspaper based in Norway, said she would be freed Saturday, though opposition leaders were wary. She was set for release in May 2009 but was sentenced to another 18 months of house arrest on charges of sheltering U.S. national John Yettaw.

Nyan Win, a spokesman for Suu Kyi's opposition National League for Democracy party and one of her legal advisers, was quoted as saying he wanted to know in advance when Suu Kyi was to be freed so he could make appropriate security accommodations.

Myanmar had its first general election in more than 20 years last weekend. The military junta said it won about 80 percent of the vote in an election viewed by the international community as a sham.

Suu Kyi led the NLD to a victory in 1990 elections, though military authorities never recognized the results.
