Indian intelligence officials said they had information to suggest members of Pakistani militant group Lashkar-e-Toiba were plotting attacks on the transportation sector during the closing ceremony.

New Delhi said it was bracing for a repeat of the 2008 siege on Mumbai, where LeT commandos killed scores in a three-day rampage.

Counter-terrorism officials said a suspected militant with ties to Kashmiri militant group Hizbul Mujahideen confessed to plotting against the Commonwealth Games

Commonwealth Games President Mike Fennel was quoted by London's Telegraph newspaper as saying he received no formal warning about an imminent threat.

The international community is on alert for a possible al-Qaida attack in Europe similar to the assault on Mumbai. The U.S. Embassy in India said it was advising citizens in the country of security issues in the wake of the European threat.
