ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, July 6 (UPI) -- Pakistani officials said they killed a top Taliban commander during clashes with militants in the tribal areas of North Waziristan, intelligence reports stated.
The Pakistani military said two soldiers were wounded in clashes with Taliban fighters in North Waziristan. Ameerullah Mehsud, a Taliban commander in Pakistan's top 20 most-wanted list, was believed to be killed in the raid, the online Long War Journal reports.
Pakistan has managed to kill or capture two top Taliban commanders since a November raid near South Waziristan netted Abdullah Shah Mehsud, the Journal adds.
The latest commander was linked to the planning of several attacks in the tribal areas. He had a $300,000 bounty on his head.
The commander was killed in an area where Taliban leaders have struck an informal truce between rival factions.
