LONDON, July 6 (UPI) -- Special precautions are needed for members of the homosexual community who plan to take part in gay pride events in Budapest, the British government warned.
The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office issued a travel advisory Tuesday for the Budapest gay pride parade scheduled for Saturday.
"Please take extra care if you are planning to attend the parade," the advisory read.
Right-wing, anti-gay demonstrators in 2008 clashed with riot police in the streets of Budapest during the parade scheduled every July.
The FCO advisory reminded would-be participants that two gas bombs were lobbed at gay pride events in July 2008. Members of the far right attacked several participants in the gay pride march as well.
Hungarian police barricaded the event in 2009, keeping demonstrators away from participants.
