TEHRAN, May 12 (UPI) -- Iranian forces fired two medium-range cruise missiles from the southern coast of Iran during war games launched last week, military officials said.
Gen. Ataollah Salehi, the commander of the Iranian army, said the two surface-to-sea missiles were launched at moving targets in the waters off the southern coast of Iran, the semiofficial Fars News Agency reports.
Salehi added that the missiles can be used against moving and stationary naval targets. They are equipped with an enhanced radar system and are able to evade conventional radars because of its low flight altitude and narrow diameter.
The commander said Iranian forces have been keeping pace with U.S. military and political efforts in many arenas.
Iranian forces announced Monday that they chased a U.S. reconnaissance drone out of the area that they said was observing the naval war games.
Iran tested a wide array of military and electronic war equipment during war games launched May 5. Iranian military commanders say their forces are operating in more than 96,000 square miles in the Strait of Hormuz and the northern Indian Ocean.
