TEHRAN, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Iranian lawmakers issued a statement to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad calling on him to adhere to the guidelines set forth by the supreme leader.

Lawmakers recently appointed the Cabinet ministers for the 10th administration in Iran, marking the beginning of the second term for Ahmadinejad.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in a statement Monday to lawmakers called for a continuation of their predecessor's approach toward social justice and the fight against corruption, and urged them to embrace a humble life style.

"Under the current situation a huge amount of high-quality work needs to be done and that by favor of God the tireless and energetic president moves in the same direction," the ruling cleric said.

More than 220 lawmakers in the 290-member Parliament called on the president to honor the guidance of the supreme leader and the clerical elite, the semiofficial Mehr News Agency reports.

Several of the picks for the next administration were met with contention among several lawmakers in Iran. Though most of the ministers were nominated, Tehran is mired in political turmoil left over from the contentious June presidential elections.

Members of Parliament, however, said solidarity would reign supreme if the president adhered to the guidance of Khamenei.

"If implemented, such guidelines will lead into unity among officials and different bodies," lawmakers added.
