BEIRUT, Lebanon, July 21 (UPI) -- The people of Lebanon have overcome difficult circumstances but must unite in order to spread the message of resistance, the leader of Hezbollah says.
Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah addressed his supporters though a televised message saying the ideology of his opposition movement was more important than ever.
"We will continue on the path of resistance for the sake of all those who sacrificed their lives," he said. "We are required to work to help the resistance spread to the Muslim world."
Nasrallah lashed out at a "climax of conspiracy," which he said not only targeted the weapons of Hezbollah, but also sought to belittle the "culture of resistance and martyrdom."
He called attempts to brand his movement as a culture of death off base, saying his supporters instead embrace a culture of life.
"I say that our enemies have done all that can be done to harm the resistance and have failed," he said.
His comments come amid border skirmishes along the Lebanese border with Israel. Israeli forces have sent reinforcements to the border, while Lebanese soldiers attempt to restore calm following violent protests in the south of the country.
Nasrallah said Israel was once again "speaking of war" and called on his supporters to stand firm in support of his movement.
Israel and Hezbollah fought a 34-day war in 2006.
