Lebanon complains of Israeli threats

BEIRUT, Lebanon, July 13 (UPI) -- Israel is repeatedly violating the terms of a U.N. agreement that ended the 2006 conflict between the two countries, the Lebanese president said.

Israel and paramilitary forces under the authority of Hezbollah clashed for more than a month in 2006. U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the conflict, calls on Israel to withdraw its forces from Lebanon, leaving a U.N. peacekeeping force active along the border regions.

In addition, the measure calls on all paramilitary forces operating outside the Lebanese military to abandon their weapons.

Beirut has lodged several official complaints to the United Nations regarding violations of the U.N. resolution, notably for Israeli incursions into Lebanese territorial waters.

The Lebanese military, meanwhile, reported that an unmanned Israeli drone entered Lebanese airspace for several hours during the weekend.

That, and the past allegations, prompted President Michel Suleiman to complain about the Israeli threat, the Lebanese Daily Star reports.

"Israel learned a tough lesson after the war, which led it to resort to threats and intimidation instead of the attacks that have proceeded every summer," he said.

The anniversary of the July war was Sunday.
