India issues demands on Pakistani security

NEW DELHI, July 2 (UPI) -- New Delhi demands concrete accounts of action taken by Islamabad to prosecute terrorists and control cross-border activity in time for a July summit.

India has said it would like detailed records of steps taken by Pakistan to prosecute those suspects involved in the November 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

Indian special prosecutors in June called for courts to issue arrest warrants for 27 of the 35 men believed to be with the Pakistani-based Lashkar-e-Toiba implicated in the November attacks, which killed at least 188 people.

In a slight snub to New Delhi, Pakistan said it would send Prime Minister Raza Gilani to a July summit in Egypt, rather than President Asif Ali Zardari. Both countries are now in preparations to send top-level foreign secretaries to attend the meeting to discuss the issue, Indian newspaper The Hindu reports.

New Delhi claims it has its own documents that assess the level of response to Mumbai and cross-border terrorist activity, saying it now wants concrete evidence of Pakistan's commitment to regional stability.

Government officials, The Hindu reports, say Islamabad needs to move beyond verbal commitments and come forward with formal documents related to the issue.
