SANAA, Yemen, June 26 (UPI) -- Officials from Yemen and Bahrain met Wednesday to discuss the impact of terrorism and piracy on bilateral interests and the region as a whole.

Abdul Aziz Abdul Ghani, the chairman of the Shura Council in Yemen, met with his Bahraini counterpart Ali Ben Saleh al-Saleh to discuss regional challenges and bilateral relations, Saba, the official Yemeni government news agency, reports.

Abdul-Ghani said tackling the issues presented by piracy and the related ramifications on the Somali government are a priority in the region.

Piracy has emerged as a regional threat on par with growing concerns of government instability and terrorist issues.

Saleh, for his part, went on to express his support to the Yemeni government for its efforts to help stabilize Iraq and Somalia, while calling for a broader regional consensus to tackle lingering challenges.

Apart from security issues, both leaders expressed support for continued joint cooperation between the two Gulf nations in terms of trade and financial relations.

The meeting concluded with Saleh extending an invitation to Abdul-Ghani to meet with Bahraini officials at a later date.
