ALMATY, Kazakhstan, May 29 (UPI) -- Officials at an Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe conference say that democratization is a critical process for future stability.

The OSCE held a conference in Kazakhstan to bring together government and civil society authorities to address regional security and efforts to ensure human rights, the OSCE reported.

Officials discussed the democratization process as a critical means to promote ongoing security and stability along with its role in healthy governance ahead of the Kazakhstan's 2010 OSCE chairmanship.

"Democratization is a continuous process of strengthening democratic structures, the respect for human rights, the rule of law, peace and security," Jeannette Kloetzer, deputy head of the OSCE Center in Astana, Kazakhstan, said in a statement.

"The OSCE Center in Astana, jointly with the OSCE institutions, stands ready to further support the Kazakhstani government and civil society in implementing OSCE principles and commitments."
