LUCCA, Italy, April 17 (UPI) -- The United Nations announced it has opened a new office in Italy in order to develop methods and policies to counter the appeal of terrorism.
The new office, called the Dialogue and Innovation Office, was established by the U.N. Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, the United Nations reported.
The creation of the Dialogue and Innovation Office, located in the northern Tuscan city of Lucca, Italy, is part of an effort by the United Nations to analyze what makes people turn to terrorist organizations or resort to militant activities.
Officials said the Dialogue and Innovation Office will be responsible for developing ways to counter the appeal of terrorism through civil-society and private-sector partnerships.
"We have to build a global movement, a global campaign against terrorism, and this can only work in fundamental partnership with civil society," Robert Orr, assistant secretary-general and chair of the U.N. Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force, said in a statement.
