Teen solves centuries-old math problem
WASHINGTON, March 6 (UPI) -- The U.S. Homeland Security Department released plans Thursday to establish two new research centers focused on program and concept analysis.
The department's Science and Technology Directorate announced the formation of the Homeland Security Studies and Analysis Institute to provide analysis of mission-focused homeland-security programs.
Officials also announced the formation of the Homeland Security Systems Engineering and Development Institute, which will evaluate best practices on how the Department of Homeland Security can reach its objectives through life-cycle systems engineering and management among other analyses, the department reported.
The department contracted Analytic Services Inc. to operate the analysis institute and the Mitre Corp. to operate the engineering and development institute in a move to engage the private sector in furthering security objectives to protect the United States from evolving threats.
"Federally Funded Research and Development Centers enable us to use private-sector resources for long-term research and development needs," Bradley Buswell, acting undersecretary for science and technology, said in a statement.
