PACOM intel head calls partners critical

HALAWA, Hawaii, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- A top U.S. military intelligence official says cooperation and multinational partnerships are vitally important for countering terrorism in the Pacific region.

Navy Rear Adm. Michael Rogers, U.S. Pacific Command's intelligence director, said that successfully countering common terrorist threats in the PACOM area of responsibility requires more than unilateral action, the American Forces Press Service reported.

Rogers, who addressed a recent forum in Singapore that brought together top intelligence authorities from the United States and six other countries, said combating terrorism and other transnational criminal threats requires strengthening international partnerships and increasing the level of information-sharing.

"Partnership and collective action are proven methods with which to counter extremists and others who wish to disrupt the rule of law and inflict harm on those who strive for peace, security and prosperity," Rogers said in a statement.

"No country is so large that it can do everything on its own. Neither can one country be so small that it can never contribute to the rest."
