KADENA AIR BASE , Japan, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force announced the deployment of its largest ever number of F-22 fighter aircraft to the Pacific Ocean theater for deterrence operations.
Air Force officials say 24 aircraft from their fleet of F-22 Raptors have been sent to the Pacific theater. The deployment includes 12 F-22s stationed at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam and the other 12 F-22s stationed at Kadena Air Base in Japan.
The Air Force says the large deployment is part of a Pacific threat deterrence mission, the Air Force reported.
The three-month deployment, which includes hundreds of additional airmen to support operations, is an effort to ensure regional security and to "conduct air combat training with Air Force and other U.S. military assets," the release said.
