WASHINGTON, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- The director of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation has named a new Office of Law Enforcement Coordination assistant director at the FBI.

FBI Director Robert Mueller announced Ronald Ruecker, a more than 30-year Oregon State Police veteran, has been appointed as the new assistant director of the FBI's OLEC, an organization designed to enhance coordination and communication between the FBI and local law enforcement.

Louis Quijas, who held the position at OLEC for six years after the creation of the office in 2002, stepped down in August, the FBI reported.

Ruecker takes on the OLEC assistant director spot after serving with the Oregon State Police for more than 30 years, including a period as superintendent. Ruecker has also been Oregon's homeland security adviser, among other positions.

"Mr. Ruecker is a highly respected law enforcement leader who brings a wealth of experience and a record of accomplishment to the FBI," Mueller said in a statement.

"He will be a valuable asset in our continuing efforts to foster cooperation and strengthen relationships with our law enforcement partners."
