ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Pakistani security authorities met with the head of Interpol Tuesday for classified briefings and to discuss strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation.

Interpol Secretary-General Ronald Noble led a delegation for meetings in Pakistan with Minister of Interior Rehman Malik and top national law enforcement authorities. At the top of the agenda for the anti-terrorism strategy meeting were discussions on the recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai. The meeting also included a classified briefing on the Marriott Hotel bombing in Pakistan's capital of Islamabad in September, Interpol reported.

Officials say Interpol and Pakistan are working to strengthen cooperation on efforts to combat terrorism in the increasingly volatile security climate along the country's border regions. The meeting included discussions on the possible implementation of Interpol's Mobile Interpol Network Database/Fixed Interpol Network Database as a way to increase the level of information-sharing between Interpol and Pakistan.

"It is only the sharing of critical police information on terrorism through Interpol's global tools and services, including its databases on wanted persons and lost or stolen travel documents, that can help countries to protect themselves from events such as the Marriott and Mumbai bombings in Pakistan and India respectively," Noble said in a statement.
