TSA names new security head in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va., Dec. 22 (UPI) -- The U.S. Transportation Security Administration has named a new director of federal security for Richmond International Airport in Virginia.

The TSA announced 20-year military veteran Annie Nelson will become the new federal security director for Richmond International Airport. As part of the TSA security position, Nelson will be responsible for the security at Richmond International Airport, which serves more than 3.5 million passengers annually, and also the security at four other airports in Virginia, the TSA reported.

Nelson, who before joining the TSA in 2005 was involved in intelligence and security initiatives at the Office of the Secretary of Defense, served as the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport federal security director.

"Annie Nelson has a strong background in aviation and homeland security," Lee Kair, TSA assistant administrator for security operations, said in a statement.

"Her diverse experiences and commitment to leadership will ensure we continue to build on the strong security foundation established at Richmond."
