CAIRO, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Egypt is increasing its diplomatic presence in war-ravaged Sudan to help restart the stalled process of implementing the comprehensive peace agreement.
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak traveled to Sudan to meet with Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir and with President of South Sudan Salva Kiir. Mubarak said the talks were part of an effort to increase bilateral relations between Egypt and Sudan and help address the volatile conflict in Darfur, the Egyptian government reported.
Officials say the trip marked the first time an Egyptian president met with leaders in South Sudan. After the talks Mubarak said Egypt's relations with South Sudan are good and promised to offer needed assistance for the peace process.
Mubarak also said the conflict in Darfur is "full of complications," but Egypt will continue to help settle disagreements that have prompted ongoing violence in the region.
