NSHEAB discusses security threats with FBI

WASHINGTON, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- The U.S. National Security Higher Education Advisory Board met with top FBI officials Thursday to discuss security threats to colleges and universities.

The regular meeting between the NSHEAB and the FBI is an effort to keep an open dialogue on confronting potential national security threats to U.S. institutions of higher education. Officials say topics discussed include threats to college laboratories and research facilities, among other homeland security and counter-terrorism related concerns, the FBI reported.

NSHEAB, made up of 20 university presidents and chancellors, was briefed on the latest security threats and ways to strengthen protection for U.S. critical national assets.

"We appreciate our partnership with the members of the NSHEAB, and we are committed to the promotion of strategic national security partnerships with academia here in the United States," FBI Director Robert Mueller said in a statement.

"Together we will develop a clear view of the threats we face, and a clear understanding of what we must do to defeat them."
