Iraq Press Roundup

During the last several years, the United States has become more of a source of world instability than a source of solution.

The U.S.-led war in Iraq, justified by lies, has caused countless problems for the Iraqi people. In doing so, the United States violated the Geneva Conventions, the daily al-Sabaah al-Jadeed newspaper said Friday.

America and the threats of the other opinion

Several factors pushed the United States to take actions to destabilize Iraq. The most powerful reason for the war, however, was opposition to those with different ideologies. The United States confronted the facts presented by analysts opposing the invasion with claims of weapons of mass destruction and a false relationship between Iraq and the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

U.S. President George W. Bush, Republican politicians and now vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin oppose the truth in Iraq. Washington, during the last eight years, worked hard to hide the facts that scientists and analysts presented to refute the weapons claims and prevented these experts from speaking openly in the public.

In addition to the impact on U.S. interior policy, the opposition to these experts and scientists has impacted U.S. foreign policy. The war on Iraq, for instance, relied mainly on Bush's deep feelings and religious reasons and had no strong evidence whatsoever.

In fact, concepts of religion and emotion are followed not only by powerful figures in the United States, but also by the public who are the supporters of the current U.S. government.

Palin insists on invoking the name of God in her move to find future "solutions" to the problems in Iraq. This encourages radical Muslims to follow the same policy in carrying out attacks against the United States.

From the other side, different Iraqi newspapers highlighted the return of violent attacks in Baghdad over the past several weeks.

Violent attacks are back in the streets of Baghdad and causing many casualties and much destruction to public properties, al-Ittihad of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan said Friday.

Return of explosions in Baghdad

New methods of attack, such as silent guns and bombs hidden underneath cars, are being used in the streets, which sets the "surge" strategy up for criticism.

The new wave of violence is targeting the Iraqi police and the Sons of Iraq paramilitary force. The reason is due to the countless checkpoints the Iraqi police have set up in the streets of Baghdad in an attempt to control the situation and eliminate the presence of armed groups.

Now, many analysts expect a visible increase in violence. For example, they say the violence is related to the upcoming elections and disputes among the main "players" from the political blocs.

Iraqis are taking on the new violent situation as they attempt to change the situation in their country. Al-Qaida's announcement they have moved their operations to places like Afghanistan and North Africa is evidence of the involvement of the Iraqi people.

Whether scholars are logical in their analyses or not, the people of Iraq are the victims of violence. The Iraqi people are again frightened for their lives, following a brief time when they were able to "breathe."

The development in relationships among the growing number of powerful nations resulted in more international interference in other countries.

While it was once only empires that dominated the world and made their impact on many countries, new powers emerged to announce a different type of domination as a "legitimate" one, al-Bayyna of the Iraqi Hezbollah party said Friday.

The motivations of human freedoms, and their concepts

Developments in international relations have produced different political ideologies justifying foreign intervention. However, modern ideological developments have ushered in the end of dominant unilateralism.

Regardless of the method of domination, "human rights" is the excuse world powers use to interfere in the lives of others. This picture is exemplified throughout the history of humankind.

With ideological developments, powerful countries care less about the method of "defending" human rights. It could take the form of imposing economic sanctions similar to the policy the United States implemented in Iraq throughout the 1990s, which caused thousands of deaths. Defending human freedoms and rights could take the form of bombing a country, such as what the United States did in Iraq in 2003.

The United States and other powers legitimized their military interference in Iraq by calling for defending freedom and human rights. Even when depending on lies, the United States was given a green light to bomb and invade Iraq.

Under the guise of defending human rights and bringing freedom to the Iraqi people, the United States invaded Iraq and violated international law. The international community allowed the United States to carry out crimes against the Iraqi people under the excuse of ushering in Western "democracy."

If it accomplished anything, such actions made it clear to the world that the fate of countries like Iraq and others in the Middle East is in the hands of world powers.
