Ukraine won't interfere in Black Sea

KIEV, Ukraine, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Ukraine's prime minister says Ukraine will not interfere with Russia's naval fleet stationed in the Black Sea, citing an international agreement.

The conflict between Russia and Georgia has prompted calls for a re-examination of an international treaty between Ukraine and Russia on the disposition of the Black Sea Fleet stationed at Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula.

Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko called on top Ukrainian defense officials to act responsibly, the Ukraine government reported.

"Concerning the Black Sea Fleet, international agreements must be observed and it is unambiguous," Tymoshenko said in a statement.

"I consider today Ukrainian authorities should act with great responsibility and have no right to engage Ukraine into any military conflict."
