SAN ANTONIO, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- U.S. Air Force acting Secretary Michael Donley is backing newly installed Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz's plan to refocus the department.

Donley released a letter to airmen Tuesday saying that Air Force leaders have begun a process of strategic planning outlining the department's focus on key initiatives to restore credibility, the Air Force reported.

Schwartz became the new Air Force chief of staff during a ceremony Tuesday after the ousting of former Gen. Michael Moseley in the wake of a several mishaps and concerns over accountability and mismanagement. Moseley was forced out along with former Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne in June.

Schwartz promised to restore the credibility of the Air Force and return discipline. Donley echoed Schwartz and added in the letter that the Air Force's top leaders will refocus on a number of issues including nuclear enterprise, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

"Along with Gen. Schwartz and other senior leaders, I am reviewing a range of issues that require immediate attention, as well as some that will require a deeper and longer look," Donley said in a statement.

"Each of us depends on the actions of others, and we expect that all airmen hold themselves, their teammates and their organizations to the highest standards of performance, ethics and accountability."
