BAGHDAD, June 12 (UPI) -- The Iraqi Interior Ministry finished its first internal audit of progress made in 2008 on security and other goals, the U.S. military said Thursday.

Iraqi Interior Minister Jawad al-Boulani completed his strategic plan for the ministry in 2008. The 2008 plan highlighted eight goals ranging from security to corruption and the rule of law.

Each directorate under the Interior Ministry is mandated with more than 150 tasks and 54 objectives as part of the 2008 strategic plan.

Interior Ministry leaders identified the vision for the remainder of the year and looked ahead toward planning the 2009 strategic draft.

"We are here to look into our achievements and most importantly to solve the obstacles we are facing," said Adnan al-Asadi of the Interior Ministry.

The audit highlighted developments on professionalism in the civil service sector and the work of additional police forces operating in Iraq.
