WASHINGTON, March 25 (UPI) -- The Federal Bureau of Investigation has announced the appointment of a new special agent in charge for counterintelligence at the agency's division in New York.

FBI Director Robert Mueller announced Gerald Rose has been named head of the New York counterintelligence post. Rose, formerly the global section chief of counterintelligence at FBI headquarters, replaces Richard Deslauriers, who has taken the Counterintelligence Division deputy assistant director assignment at FBI headquarters, the FBI reported.

Rose, who received the FBI Director's Award for Outstanding Counterintelligence Investigation in 2006, has a long history of criminal and counterintelligence matters including a stint as assistant legal attache to the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa and as supervisory special agent for the New York Division's Asian organized crime squad among other assignments.

While serving in his most recent position as chief of the global section of the Counterintelligence Division at FBI Headquarters Rose "served as the national program manager for all Global Section counterintelligence matters, with managerial oversight for units that handle high-priority counterintelligence matters," the release said.
